I see Corel Draw X7 is available. As for CNC art it looks like mostly a cosmetic update. I'm all for a fancier interface and transparent fills, but it doesn't say it has a new DXF engine with arcs, so the only new feature I really might have to have is the new display support. As usual, I don't see any reason to upgrade right away. Durn it.

The new display support has tabbed windows for multiple document windows and those can now be dragged outside the workspace.

    corel x7 tabbed windows.

The tabs let you move between windows faster, otherwise it has possible limited benefits for multi-monitor users.

If it can duplicate a window, that would be very useful, if you could have a side monitor displaying a whole document in normal display mode for reference while zoomed in on a wireframe view in another window, that would be a game changer, but I don't see any indication that it lets you do that.

Otherwise, the only benefit I see is if you have a cintiq or display pen tablet for a secondary monitor, it will allow moving the document to the display tablet without having to drag the whole program window back and forth, and the workspace would stay on the main monitor, and not get disturbed, like currently if you move the whole program window between monitors with different resolution it can get all messed up.

The new interface looks like it might be more tactile for new users and single monitor use, or just for customizing in general it looks like it might be a lot easier to use that the current system.

If the new high resolution features solve various zooming, node display, and object clicking issues on monitors with over 1920 horizontal resolution, fixing any one of those would be worth an upgrade for me. It currently zooms too much at a time with the scroll wheel. It displays nodes that move when clicked on, which often interferes with double clicking a node quickly. And on a high res monitor you have to click very precisely to click on an object in wireframe view mode. Those problems make corel draw much harder to use than it ought to be. So I can only hope they fixed some things like that in the new version.

I thought it was just my mouse that scrolled in to fast, pressing shift when scrolling makes it better.

I'll be durn. I didn't know that. It looks like holding shift zooms about 1/3 as much at a time (on mine). That will help. But it's still aggravating.

Thanks a bunch for that tip...

I have not downloaded the trial yet. But just reading the description, I could see the new Font playground feature being useful. Just not useful enough for the $199 upgrade price.

incidentally, the latest update for X6 includes font playground as a premium feature

but premium membership includes complimentary upgrade to X7, which makes using it in X6 seem unnecessary

I'm just not a fan of subscription software/premium features

    font playground.

Gary what is a font playground? Not that I want or need it - just curious.
